A Sense of Home (ASOH) changes the lives of foster youth who've "aged out" of the foster care system by creating homes for them. Collecting gently-used donated furniture and housewares, volunteers work with the youth to help them realize their own sense of home — often for the first time, in the process, helping them achieve self-sufficiency.

In the process, the ASOH community acts as extended family to the transitioning youth, providing practical and emotional support, and, when possible, professional connections, they might not otherwise have.

120 homes created and 170 youth in beds in less than 2 years

With exceptional support from so many donors and volunteers in the SoCal region, A Sense of Home hopes to continue to grow to serve more and more young people throughout Southern California, and, eventually, across the country.

You can read more about A Sense of Home's work through this feature in the LA Times, How a group of strangers helped a former foster child create the home of her dreams, and CNN coverage about the group: Group helps former foster kids establish a home all their own.
